Website reviewAll our websites are developed in-house, by very bright Orphans Press developers! To a greater or lesser degree we 'tailor' most of the sites we work on to better reflect the way you do business. This calls for smart coding, a mix of core elements we are able to 'recycle' and new code, just for you. Our experience tells us that 'off-the-shelf' web applications rarely meet a customers specific needs, or those that do also tend do invariably have an overly complicated and often unusable interface.

Unusually for a development company you have direct contact with the developers who are creating your website so any new ideas can be discussed without a middleman. Quite often you'll find that requested amendments are being made as you're asking for them on the phone.

During development

For large websites the development process can take some time and to reassure you that progress is being made we keep in regular contact throughout this phase of a project (we typically upload websites to a temporary location on the internet so you can keep track of it). It's very rare that every aspect can be covered in the initial brief so ongoing communication helps us clarify website features along the way to ensure the final product is something you are happy with.

A realistic development timescale will always be decided during the planning stages and we do our level best to meet it! Ocassionally the end goal is a complex website but there may be a need to publish something in the interim, in which case we like to create a simple website using the chosen design as a template and then add 'modules' in phased releases.

Preferred technology

PHP logoEvery website has different requirements which is why we choose to program in PHP whenever a we require some level of interactivity or dynamic content. PHP is a proven web technology that fits the needs of everything from the most basic contact form up to a complex online shop or company intranet. Some of the most popular websites on the internet are developed in PHP so we're in good company!

MySQL logoDynamic information is stored in MySQL databases which partners very well with PHP and, like PHP, it is the chosen technology for some of the worlds largest online businesses. MySQL is a high performance solution and very cost effective so it suits the requirements of the web very well.

Although we favour the above methods for new and complex builds, our development team also has experience with ASP.NET and MSSQL server. We use these Microsoft web technologies when working with established ASP websites that don't warrent a full rebuild, or when the client's requirements limit us as such.

Other web based technologies are used as and when websites require them. We can produce effective Flash elements and implement AJAX techniques if it's called for, as well as providing printable web solutions using either PDF's or dedicated print templates for standard web pages.
